Shell's operations in Nigeria have faced resistance for many years, not only from the local population but also from groups in the Netherlands opposing Shell's activities in Nigeria. In 2021, after a 13-year legal battle, the company was ordered to pay compensation to a group of Nigerian farmers, setting an unprecedented legal precedent.
